Ideal candidates should have experience in building cross-channel experiences in growth marketing. They should have exceptional brand, visual, and interaction design skills, proven design leadership and influence, and a depth of experience working across the entire software design process: from conducting and leveraging research (quantitative and qualitative) to prototyping and fine implementation to testing and evaluation. They will have had experience leading cross-functional reward, loyalty, and customer community projects intended to drive engagement and business value. They will have participated or led the entire process from inception to execution.
The Principal Designer thinks about our brand and website in a broad sense, identifies ways to simplify and unify the user experience, and seeks to build brand awareness and product loyalty. Work includes collaborating with our marketing and product feature teams, managing multiple stakeholders, and producing world-class programs and experiences for our millions of customers.
The Principal Designer sets the quality bar others follow and does whatever it takes to improve the customer experience. The Principal Designer is willing to make unpopular decisions when the quality of the user experience is at risk and is capable of artfully influencing user experience team members and business stakeholders. Candidates should be well versed in designing for all manner of devices and platforms, have a track-record of designing full products and services, and partner equally well with core researchers or designers, senior copywriters, and directors of product management.
Principal Designers at Booking.com must be excellent communicators and collaborators, thrive in high-paced, dynamic environments, and display influence and humility. A plus for this role is experience within a Marketing and Brand organization or a role in which partnership between Marketing and Product was a crucial area of investment.
We're looking for designers with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in design leadership positions. Past experience working in ecommerce sites, rewards/engagement and loyalty programs, or in data-driven product development teams is a plus. Must present a portfolio of work which illustrates visual design and interaction design excellence, brand creation and brand implementation, program ownership, and business growth.

Possesses an ability to communicate with business and design leaders and to act as point of contact for design initiatives.
Has an ability to convey “the bigger picture” and to frame problems and solutions in design and business terms.
Has experience uniting different channels into a single system, i.e. loyalty programs across web, app, email, chat services (SMS / WeChat / WhatsApp) and offline channels.
Has a strong domain knowledge in marketing, loyalty, rewards, messaging, and/or engagement.
Has knowledge of current challenges in the marketing environment such as attribution of marketing touch points, understanding customer lifetime value, and the use of data science led personalization.
Has interest and enthusiasm in understanding the impact of loyalty and rewards for different audiences, i.e. different environment and expectations in emerging markets like China, Indonesia, and India.
Has led brand-development programs and visual design initiatives in addition to product design solutions.
Experienced in building bridges between amongst UX, product management, and technical teams and is a strong force in bringing research, copy, and design together.
Can balance and prioritize a number of project and priorities.
Is able to mentor designers and contribute to the education and growth of the design community.
Will improve the visibility and renown of Booking.com in the broader industry
